Unit 2 shapes and shadows

lighting can give emotion and feeling to photos and different lighting styles add different feels to the photo. The sun adds a nice smooth light to photos but on the other hand studio lights add harsh light to add sharp edges to photos.

The sun is coming from above and the camera is facing the sun to make the humans shadows

This time in is not natural light it is artificial light making one side of the body glow and the other darker and the light source is to the side of the camera

Photographers analysis

Analysis of photo: This photo is of a splash of water with the sun parting through thin bit of water to create a feeling of warmth and tranquility. The clouds add a feeling of protection because they look like a big wall and the sun is blasting through bits of cloud to show that their is always hope in the toughest times. The focus is spot on to bring your attention to the water splash and the aperture is perfect to not blur out the background to much and create a depth of field


Clark little is an inspiration for lots of photographer and kids. He has pushed the boundaries of underwater photography and gone to huge risk to get the shot.  Underwater colour photos were discovered when Clark little was just a little kid but once he got married and technology had become what is today that is when his passion and skill came to life. Clark little is Hawaiian born and raised, he grew up at the beach with the massive shorebreak and beautiful creatures and sunset. He has broken bones to get the shots, he says that the shorebreak is just a big adrenaline rush for him that he loves and can't ever leave.
Chase jarvis -  visionary photographer-90s to 80s
Analysis of photo: This Photo is very strange. I like how it makes everything look small and how the plants look the same size as the humans or bigger. The focus has not been sharpened to create a feeling of wonder. The aperture is set low to create a shallow depth of field to bring the viewers attention to the foreground and the humans because the humans do not look size appropriate.

Chase Jarvis is an award-winning American photographer, director, artist, and entrepreneur. Since April 2014, Jarvis has been the chief executive officer of CreativeLive, an online education platform that he co-founded in 2010. Jarvis is the youngest person to be named Hasselblad Master, Nikon Master, and ASMP Master  In 2008, Jarvis's Kung Fu HD series received first place in the Special Effects category at the International Photography Awards.The Best Camera app also won the Adorama Photography Award at the APPOS Awards. Jarvis has also received honors from the Prix de la Photographie de Paris, the Advertising Photographers of America, and Photo District News magazine for his work
Jarvis contributed to the New York Times story "SnowFall," which won the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing in 2013. In 2014, Jarvis was recognized as one of the most influential photographers by the Huffington Post. That same year, he received an Emmy nomination for his documentary Portrait of a City.



Edward Steichen- fashion slash war photographer- world war 2

Analysis of photo:  The photo is a squad of world war 2 planes flying in seagull formation. He has created a very big depth of field to show the mass amount of devastation that happens in war. The picture is in black and white which helps the point of misery.

Edward Jean Steichen (March 27, 1879 – March 25, 1973) was a Luxembourgish American photographer, painter, and art gallery and museum curator.
Steichen was the most frequently featured photographer in Alfred Stieglitz' groundbreaking magazine Camera Work during its run from 1903 to 1917. Together Stieglitz and Steichen opened the Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession, which eventually became known as 291 after its address.

His photos of gowns for the magazine Art et Décoration in 1911 are regarded as the first modern fashion photographs ever published. From 1923 to 1938, Steichen was a photographer for the Condé Nast magazines Vogue and Vanity Fair while also working for many advertising agencies including J. Walter Thompson. During these years, Steichen was regarded as the best known and highest paid photographer in the world. In 1944, he directed the war documentary The Fighting Lady, which won the 1945 Academy Award for Best Documentary.He is also a well regarded war photographer.
